The Government Security and Defence Policy Report 2009 provides a comprehensive evaluation of Finnish security and defence policy and lays down guidelines for the future extending into the latter half of the 2010s.

The Nordic foreign ministers discussed further development of Nordic foreign and security policy cooperation when they met in Oslo on Monday, 9 February. The meeting received an independent report on the topic compiled by Thorvald Stoltenberg, former defence minister and foreign minister of Norway. The Nordic foreign ministers’ meeting held in June 2008 appointed Stoltenberg to investigate the possibilities for Nordic cooperation in the field of foreign and security policy in a 10–15 year perspective.

In its session on Thursday, 29 January, the Government decides to give the Finnish Parliament a report on Finland’s participation in the ISAF mission to secure the arrangement of elections in Afghanistan in 2009.
